The emerald ash borer is a pest whose larvae feed on the inner bark of ash trees, interfering with the tree’s ability to get the water and nutrients it needs to survive and thrive. In Allegheny County, the emerald ash borer is responsible for the loss of thousands of trees. We are working with national partners the Arbor Day Foundation and FedEx with local support from Peoples and Allegheny County Parks to give away 1,000 trees to replace the canopy lost.
