Lesson Plans and Worksheets
Educating children about the benefits of trees is a great way to connect with the natural world. Learning about trees can also instill a sense of place by becoming aware of our natural community spaces. Many of the environmental problems facing our communities could be improved using trees, plants, and a little creativity. We hope that these activities introduce those concepts to students, who will ultimately benefit from the trees we’re planting right now.
We have compiled this collection of lessons and activities for students focused on the importance of trees! Select lessons include What is Arbor Day?, How Big is That Tree?, and Planting a Tree from Seed. Check out the guide here.
Explorer's Guide
Tree Pittsburgh partnered with City of Pittsburgh Park Rangers to build the Explorer’s Guide! These lessons are designed to help 4th-6th grade students get out and enjoy Pittsburgh’s beautiful parks.
Check out the Explorer’s Guide website for lessons including the Value of Trees, Leave No Trace, and Wildlife Detectives. Or, Build Your Own Park!
While the guide is designed for Pittsburgh Parks, there are plnty of activities that can be done in any outdoor space – or indoors on a rainy day!
