Youth Education and Schools

Education programs for our youngest learners

Educating children and young people about the benefits of trees is a great way for them to connect with the natural world. We can visit your school or group, or you can come to our campus on the Allegheny River for an immersive educational experience.

School Programs

Tree Pittsburgh’s Education team is available for special classroom programs and visits. No matter the age of your students, we can adapt our programs to suit your needs. If you don’t have green space nearby, no problem! Our indoor programming is just as engaging.

Your students can learn the parts of a tree and how to do some tree education, grow a tree from seed, take a walk around your school grounds to discover what trees and plants may be in your backyard!

Urban Forest in a Box

Want to take the learning into your classroom, on your own? Check out our Urban Forest in a Box. Literally, you can check them out! The Urban Forest in a Box is a set of 5 kits that explore different topics of tree-based curriculum, including Trees & Birds, Trees & Mammals, Trees & Urban Heat Islands, Trees & Stormwater, and iTree. The kits have instructions, equipment, worksheets, and more! Contact us to check out a box for your group today.

Community and Scout Groups

Youth groups, Scouts, and other community groups are perfect candidates for our youth education programs! Similar to our school programming, we can offer in-person instruction where your group meets, or we can welcome you onto our campus in upper Lawrenceville to learn about our learning landscape, Heritage Nursery, and reforestation efforts along the Allegheny River. For Scouts, we are available for providing instruction for badges as well as general education.

We also love traveling to libraries! Our education staff is available for in-person visits, book recommendations, and more.
