Negley Run Boulevard Site Preparation
Saturday, June 25, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Tree Pittsburgh needs your help to restore a section of the urban forest in Highland Park!
Please sign up here so we know to expect you.
This summer, volunteers will help Tree Pittsburgh clear large debris. Then, the hungry herd at Allegheny GOATscape will munch the remaining invasive plant material down to the ground.
In the fall, we’ll plant trees to transform this area into a new, healthy urban forest!
This project will be rugged. Volunteers must wear long pants and closed-toe shoes or boots. Tree Pittsburgh will provide tools, equipment, and work gloves.
For some history: in the early 1900s, Negley Run Blvd’s north side was lined with numerous homes, demolished around the middle of the century. After the homes were razed, this area was incorporated into Highland Park, becoming a part of the park’s wooded southern arm.
Following the demolition of the homes, invasive plants moved into the disturbed area and have spent the last 50+ years spreading and crowding out native canopy trees that would otherwise offer a healthier forest ecology.
